Emma joined the University of Liverpool team in June 2025 as an Outreach and Public Engagement Officer. In her role, she ensures that Imago’s projects, products and research are visible and accessible by non-specialised audiences, including academic, government, and industry sectors.

Emma has always enjoyed taking complex science and making it accessible and engaging to wider audiences. Before joining Imago, she was an Impact Officer in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, where she supported researchers in evidencing and enhancing the benefits of their work beyond academia. Prior to joining the university, she worked as a Science Writer for a life sciences marketing agency, producing content types ranging from social media posts to white papers. She was also previously an Assistant Editor at Chemical Science, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s flagship journal. While working there, she wrote articles for Chemistry World magazine and co-organised the global #RSCPoster Twitter Conference 2021.

While Emma loves all things science, she hails from a chemistry background, holding a PhD in asymmetric organocatalysis from the University of Cambridge, and a Master’s degree in Chemistry with a year in industry from the University of Liverpool. She was also a member of the SciFinder Future Leaders in Chemistry Program (2016).

Outside of work, Emma enjoys running, training at a self-defence club, and growing vegetables and chillies—many of which make it into her home-made hot sauces.
