Munazza Usmani is a Geospatial Researcher at Newcastle University, working with the Imago team since March 2026. Her research focuses on applying remote sensing and GeoAI techniques to develop scalable workflows for analyzing satellite data and supporting environmental and societal applications.
Prior to joining Newcastle University, she worked as a researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), Italy, where she contributed to projects focused on sustainability, public administration, and environmental monitoring using Earth observation data. Her expertise includes working with Sentinel, Landsat, and SAR data, integrating geospatial and socio-economic datasets, and applying machine learning and deep learning methods for large-scale analysis.
Munazza completed her PhD at the University of Trento, where her research explored the fusion of remote sensing and citizen science data using advanced machine learning approaches for geospatial analysis. She is passionate about open and reproducible research, with strong programming skills in Python and experience in translating complex data into actionable insights.
